CORPORATE GOVERNANCE
There is a Governing Board comprising:
- Chairperson
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Public Relations Officer
- Membership Officer
- Activities Officer
There will also be invited members of the Board who represent Lenders, the Legal Profession, and Regulatory Bodies. Meetings will be held at least quarterly.
The Board’s responsibility is to develop OMA into the organisation to which mortgage advisers aspire to belong. It also has a process for disciplining members.
PROCESSES FOR HANDLING CLIENTS
Obtaining all the due diligence and ‘Know Your Client’ information. Advising and recommending the mortgage that is most suitable for the client. Advising the costs and fees payable with the mortgage, e.g. valuation fees, arrangement fees, legal fees, early redemption fees, etc.
BACKGROUND
Because Spain does not regulate Mortgage Advisers there are some unscrupulous people conducting mortgage business in Spain to the detriment of their clients. Fortunately there are a number of UK qualified mortgage professionals who work here, where possible, to UK regulatory standards. A number of these people have come together to establish OMA – the Overseas Mortgage Alliance.

REASONS TO BECOME AN OMA MEMBER
Membership is by way of completing an application form and submitting it together with proof of professional qualifications and the names of two independent referees. These references will be taken up.
Members pay an annual subscriptions as follows:
- Company Registration €150
- For each approved person € 50
- Lenders €2500
